The Wall Street Journal Conferences Platform

Inspired by the front page of the Wall Street Journal, the WSJ What’s News app delivers the ten must-read business and market stories straight to your phone. The feed is constantly updated in concert with the WSJ newsroom to provide maximum news in minimum time

The WSJ CITY app provides the same essential coverage on the most important financial players, markets and deals, except from a London-centric perspective. The first foreign-focused product from WSJ, it provides instant briefings to stay ahead in one of the world’s chief financial centers.

The Challenge

WSJ asked Somo to spearhead the design, development and launch of the WSJ What’s News and CITY mobile applications. We leveraged our expertise and experience in mobile development to identify problems and develop solutions that optimize WSJ editorial content for their subscribers.

My Role

Experience Strategy: I built wireframes and interactive prototypes to demonstrate the vision, design principles and content strategy for all aspects of the What’s News and WSJ CITY apps.

Design Execution: I designed the mobile product to enhance the visuals and experience of the web version, while always maintaining WSJ’s signature aesthetic. I also expanded the user interface toinclude related information associated with each article.

Leadership: I oversaw a team of two designers and collaborated with our development team and project managers to develop and launch the product.
